Coverings 2019 Recap
Coverings 2019 Trade Show Recap
If you’ve been following us lately, you know that the Moore House Interiors team has been on the road this spring! From sunny Orlando to the mountains of Colorado, we’ve been racking up the travel miles. Today, Larson is sharing her recap of Coverings Global Stone & Tile Expo that she attended in April and the newest stone and tile trends you can expect to see in the design world!
We were beyond honored to be invited to Coverings as an influencer for the show! I’m still wondering how/why we were lucky enough to get chosen to be part of such a wonderful group of influencers or how we suddenly became ‘influencers’. We were in outstanding company and made fast friends with the other 7 influencers in our group, many of whom I’m sure you’re familiar with on social media: Sarah, Kirsten, John, Crystal, Milton, Holly and Amber! I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous going into a group of people I consider ‘big dogs’ in the home design industry, and I don’t get nervous easily! But we all got along so well and networking with this amazing group was the highlight of the trip for me. I’m so grateful that these 7 people were so welcoming and kind to me.
Coverings is North America’s largest stone and tile expo with over 9 miles of stone and tile to explore. This year’s show was in Orlando, Florida (next year is in New Orleans!) and people from all over the world attend the show. The show is free to the public which I think is so cool; there’s so much to see and the fact that you can tour everything for free makes it accessible for everyone. During our time at Coverings, we did walking tours of Ceramics of Italy, Tile of Spain and Tile Council of North America, we sat in on Continuing Education Courses, we learned about the lasted tile and stone trends and we got to see live demonstrations of the newest tile and stone technology. Not to mention we enjoyed excellent food and drink!
I could write so much about what I learned at Coverings but I thought I’d condense it down to the stone and tile trends I saw and learned about while I was there. Here are some of the latest trends you can expect to see come to life through design:
-
Floral tile. At first I thought all the floral-printed tile I was seeing was an ode to our location, Orlando! But floral tile is on the up-and-up and becoming very popular. It’s fun, colorful and a great way to incorporate some pattern into your designs.
-
Dark marble. The all white look is still very popular but we saw a lot of dark marble and tile at Coverings. It’s edgy, fresh and change from the all white schemes we’re used to seeing lately.
-
Large panel tile. Forget the tiny tile, it’s all about the BIG panels. Large format tile was everywhere at Coverings; walls, floors, ceilings, you name it. Tile panels that were bigger than me! Large format tile means less grout which is a definite win for many people who don’t like the maintenance that comes with grout.
-
Geometric patterns. I’m a big fan of the geometric pattern tile! It’s a break from the usual square or rectangle shaped tile and creates such unique designs. I think this will be around for awhile!
-
Pattern play. We saw quite a bit of patterned tile! My favorite tile from the entire show was a denim-print tile from Spain (photo below). Not sure if it was the Texan in me that was drawn to denim or just the fact that it was so pretty and unique, but I want to use it in a project ASAP!
-
Bold blues. Here at MHI, we believe that blue is a neutral and I was so glad to see that blue is hot right now!
-
Patterned wood-look tile. I was blown away by the technology of tile when we saw how far wood-look tile has come. Not only does it look more realistic than ever, it’s now become entirely waterproof so you can even put it in your shower!
There were so many great examples of these trends at Coverings! Scroll through to see some of my favorite tiles from the show.
These are just a few snippets from our time at Coverings! I wish I had sources for all this beautiful tile but unfortunately I don’t. If you have any questions you can message us or comment below! A huge thank you to Coverings and Sharp Communications for inviting us and hosting us. It was a great trip and I’m so thankful for the experience!
