How to Create a Simple, Classic Tablescape
Fall Tablescape Decor
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive regarding the holidays is how to set a pretty fall or winter table! Have you been searching Pinterest for beautiful tablescapes but end up feeling overwhelmed?
My motto the past few years on decorating for all holidays and events has been keep it simple and classic. I'm going to walk you through some simple and easy ways to throw together a gorgeous table on the cheap for your next get-together.
Step One
To get started, you need some basics: white plates, neutral chargers & cloth napkins. You can get white plates from Target or Wal-Mart (both linked) and you can mix and match. For the chargers, I have a set of natural woven ones from Ikea. Woven chargers are, again, budget-friendly and easy to find. Check out these ones! Lastly, cloth napkins are a must. I have one set of white napkins from Home Goods and another from the Target Dollar Spot. Here are some from Amazon that you can Prime in time for the holidays! **Note** I'm not one to iron my napkins after I wash them, I just bunch them up and tie some burlap string or velvet ribbon around them!
If you stay neutral with these items, you can use them for other holidays and get togethers year round!
Step Two
Now for the fun part--gathering centerpiece materials. Again, keep it simple and use things that you already have on hand. Here are things that I have on hand in my house and they help to create the perfect centerpieces: table runner or bread boards, brass candlesticks and greenery. If you don't have any of the above, don't fret, you don't have to have them! Table runner's are budget-friendly finds at almost any home decor store. Bread boards don't have to be an antique from Round Top, you can find them at Home Goods. Candle sticks don't need to match! Grab all the different styles, sizes and heights to add interest and metals to your table. You can find them all over your local thrift stores for next to nothing or order off Amazon! Greenery is the easiest. Find a bush or tree or plant and clip away! Find your fall or winter touches---pumpkins, pears, clementines, ornaments, pine branches, ribbon... whatever seasonal touch speaks to you! I personally love the texture and rustic touch antlers add to our Texas table but they might not be a fit for you, just an idea.
Step Three
Layer, layer, layer all of these items to make it work! They don't have to be organized or perfect, just play around with them. Take a break and come back if you get frustrated. Go heavy on the greenery and lighter on the seasonal decor.
Seriously y'all, don't over think it. There is no need for extravagant spending. Keep it simple and classic, but most importantly, don't stress! The most important thing with any dinner table is to enjoy time with the people around it.
Final Note
Do you have fine china, silverware or crystal you'd like to use but don't want your table to look too formal? Use your china and crystal but pair it with the woven chargers, cloth napkins and a linen table cloth to soften your pieces and make the table feel more inviting and less stuffy!
